DESCRIPTION: APW - Waltham, Champion, Model 1872, 16J, 16S, gold-filled OF original case with floral engraving detail to rear in addition to name "C.F. Roughan," vermicelli detail to bezel, band and rear perimeter, white enamel SS dial, SW-LS, gilt damascene, mirror finish and damascene winding wheels, s#4527195. The Champion is a rare watch with a total production of only 200 made; this grade was made with a range of attractive gilt damascene patterns and was produced in a single run that is notable for being the highest serial numbers found among Model 1872 regular production.
CONDITION: Mvt: Ticking somewhat sluggishly and with error in the flat of its balance motion after a twist to start, overhaul recommended, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, excellent gilt damascene tone, short scratch at center between jewel setting and larger winding wheel recess, some oxide to winding wheels and regulator assembly; dial with edge chip at 8 and associated surrounding hls at perimeter, additional hl extending inward at 8; case shows very light wear, no dents or dings, mild reduction of engraving detail, small spots of wear to brass to high ridges of pendant; tight bow, crown shows medium wear with ample ridge break; good glass crystal.
